Editorial Standards

How field notes separate operating practice, evidence, judgment, and legal limits.

Ohio Hiring Fieldbook publishes practical operating methods. A note must help a reader make one part of a search clearer without selling a service or implying that one process fits every employer.

Name the operating decision

A note states who will use the tool, what decision it can support, and what it cannot decide. A score or template has little value when its owner and use are unknown.

Prefer primary evidence

Where a note depends on public data, guidance, or a government service, it links to the responsible public body. A source link does not remove the need to explain what the source measures, when it was updated, and which local detail it can miss.

Separate fact from judgment

Observed information, candidate statements, interviewer judgment, model output, and assumptions are different records. The fieldbook does not present a preference as a legal rule or a forecast as an observed result.

Protect people

The notes avoid real candidate records, confidential searches, hidden identity claims, and personal data. Examples use generic roles and changed details. Readers are told to use approved systems and current retention rules.

Correct the work

Material corrections must state what changed and why. A note is reviewed when its primary source changes or when its operating method no longer matches the work it describes.
